How to set up Dolby Atmos for home theater
To use Atmos with a soundbar or receiver:
- Connect your soundbar or AV receiver to your Xbox using HDMI ARC or eARC.
- On your Xbox, go to Settings > General > Volume & audio output.
- Under Speaker audio, set HDMI audio to Bitstream out.
- Set Bitstream format to Dolby Atmos for home theater.

How to set up Dolby Atmos for headphones
To use Atmos with headphones, you’ll need the Dolby Access app.
- Go to the Microsoft Store on your Xbox and download Dolby Access.
- Launch the app and follow the setup instructions.
- Choose With my headphones, then select Dolby Atmos for Headphones.
- You may be prompted to purchase or start a free trial.
- After setup, go to Settings > Volume & audio output, then set Headset format to Dolby Atmos for headphones.
You can use any pair of wired or wireless headphones—just note that Atmos processing happens through the Xbox.
