How high should you mount your TV?
When it comes to how high to mount your Smart TV, everyone is different. Some people prefer a lower mounted TV, so it stays at eye level, while others like their TV mounted higher, just slightly above eye level. If you're planning to mount your TV above the mantle, make sure it's not too high where you must tilt your head up to view it.
We do not recommend mounting your TV above a fireplace. Not only is the placement too high, but more importantly, the heat from the fireplace can lead to premature failure of the TV.
How to hide cords for a wall mounted TV
So, you put in the effort to pick the right TV mount and properly mount it to your wall, now, you might be looking for solutions to hide the cords hanging from your newly mounted TV. If keeping the space around your TV clean and modern is a priority for you – we have a few solutions for you to consider.
- Use cord covers or flex tubing. Tuck the power cord or any other cord into tubing or a cover and run it to the closest power outlet. If you're trying to gather a large number of wires, use a cable tie. Both options allow you to customize the right size by cutting into the tubing or cover.
- Run TV wires behind the wall. This option involves cutting into the wall and running signal cables and power behind it to the nearest power outlet. Cable organizer kits provide the necessary supplies to route cables through the wall in compliances with most local building codes.
- Run cords along the back of furniture or shelving. If your TV is mounted above a mantle, consider lining cords along the nearest furniture or shelves using cable clips like these made by OHill.
How to mount a TV
Mounting your TV to the wall elevates viewing enjoyment for everyone watching. Whether it's just you and your family watching a movie or you're having a party for the big game, mounting your TV helps ensure there's not a bad seat in the room.
Here's step-by-step how to mount a TV:
- Locate the wall studs. Using a stud finder, locate the studs in the area you want to mount the TV. Mark with tape to remember the spots.
- Get a partner. Hold the mount up to the wall and mark with a pencil where you want the drill holes to attach to the wall. You'll want to use a level.
- Attach the mounting plate to TV. On the back of the TV, find the mounting plate attachment holes and attach the plate to the TV. (Your mount usually comes with the necessary hardware.)
- Connect the mounting bracket to the wall. With help from your partner, hold the mount to the wall and drill in screws into holes you made in Step 2.
- Mount TV to the wall. With your partner's help again, lift the TV (carefully) and line the mounting plate on the TV up with the mounting bracket on the wall. Be sure to read the exact instructions by the manufacturer, each one varies slightly.
