With no shortage of data from Asurion claims and uBreakiFix by Asurion repair statistics, the team compared the number of phone breaks and repairs per city to find out where people are more likely to damage their tech. Additionally, they looked at outside data like online searches for sprained ankles, and the number of orthopedic surgeons in the area.

What makes a city clumsy?
Looking at our list of clumsiest cities in America, there may not appear to be an obvious correlation, but we think there are a few factors that play a part.
Weather: Everybody knows that water and electronics don't mix very well and cities like Raleigh and New Orleans see more than 100 days of rain per year. Plus, 10% of the top 10 cities on our clumsiest list are more hot and humid than the average city in the study. Maybe rainy days or sweaty, slippery hands can lead to more broken devices.
Sports: Apparently, sports games and tailgating can come with more consequences than a hangover. Over half of our top ten clumsiest cities are home to SEC football teams and several others are home to professional football stadiums as well.
Average resident age: Are older generations better at protecting their tech? Our data seems to think so. 40% of the 10 most graceful cities have a large population of people over 65 years of age including San Francisco, New York, and Tulsa compared to 20% of the top 10 clumsiest cities.
Things to do: While every city has amazing things to do and see, many of the cities on our list are popular Spring Break and summer destinations. Maybe it's the heat, but more likely, it's the margaritas. Our data also found that the least clumsy cities also had more museums than the ones in the clumsy list. Maybe a quiet day at the museum versus a rowdy sports game is a safer bet for your devices.
