Check the HDMI cable
Your first step is to make sure your HDMI cable is connected correctly. The HDMI cable combines both the audio and visual output from the gaming console. Check your TV output
Your TV settings can also impact your PS5's audio. Check your TV's audio settings and verify that the audio output is correctly configured to receive sound from the HDMI input where your PS5 is connected. Also, make sure that the TV's volume is turned up and not on mute.
Use standard HDMI mode
Some TVs and monitors may not support the advanced features of HDMI 2.1. Try switching to standard HDMI mode to see if it resolves your audio problems. Check your TV or monitor's user manual for steps on how to change the HDMI mode, as they can vary from model to model.
Adjust your console sound settings
Check the sound settings on your PS5 console and make sure they’re set up for your audio system or TV. Here’s how you can find those settings:
- Go to the PlayStation home screen and select Settings > Sound.
- Select Audio Output and then review the settings.
Update software
Software updates can fix bugs that may be causing audio issues, so make sure your PS5 and TV firmware are up to date. Go to Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update to check for updates.
Turn off 3D audio mode
While 3D audio improves the gaming experience, it may cause compatibility issues with some audio systems. Try turning off 3D audio to see if it fixes the sound problem. On your console, go to Settings > Sound > 3D Audio for [your sound device] > toggle off Enable 3D Audio.
