One of the biggest benefits of having a Fitbit® is convenience. Your smart watch should be reliable and easy to use, whether you want to track your sleep or count your steps. It should also give you the correct time (it is a watch, after all).
However, if you're jumping time zones or navigating daylight saving time, your Fitbit may get confused. Typically, Fitbits automatically update the time, but they must be synced to your phone or computer to do so. To change the time on your fitness watch, you may have to resync your Fitbit or manually update your settings.
If you’re wondering how to change the time on your Fitbit, look no further. At Asurion, we’re committed to educating you on how to manage your devices easily.
Here’s how to change the time on your Fitbit
The time on your Fitbit may be off for a few reasons. Perhaps you were in a different time zone, daylight saving either began or ended, or your watch isn’t synced with your device. Whatever the reason, the solution is pretty simple. Follow these steps to learn how to change the time on a Fitbit:
1. Access your profile in the Fitbit app
First, open the Fitbit app on your phone or go to Fitbit.com on your computer. Sign in to your account if you're not already logged in. Make sure your Fitbit is nearby and that your Fitbit battery is fully charged.
2. Go to Settings
- When using the mobile app, tap your profile image and click Fitbit settings from the Today tab.
- If you’re on a computer, go to the Fitbit.com dashboard by clicking on Settings or the gear icon.
3. Locate and select the Time Zone option
Next, find your time zone settings.
- In the mobile app, click on Date, time & units.
- On the computer dashboard, go to Advanced Settings and click Timezone.
4. Switch off the Set automatically feature (optional)
In the mobile app, click on Time zone to see if Set automatically is toggled on. You can turn this off if you’d rather select your time zone manually. Turn this feature on if you don't want the time to change automatically when you travel.
5. Manually select your correct time zone
If you want to manually set the time on your Fitbit, you can choose the correct time zone from the list provided under your account settings in both the app and website dashboard. Don’t forget to save your changes if prompted to save or submit.
6. Sync your Fitbit with your device’s time
You may need to sync your Fitbit to your phone or computer so that it registers the time zone that has been updated on your account.
- In the Fitbit app, tap the Today tab, touch and hold the screen, and then pull down. This should sync your device—just make sure your Fitbit is nearby.
- On the dashboard version, go to your account page to sync your device.
Change how time is displayed on your Fitbit
Your Fitbit also allows you to change how your clock is displayed and whether you want it to appear as standard time or military time.
- In the Fitbit app, select Today, click on the devices icon on the top-left corner, and chooseyour device. Tap Gallery, then Clocks. Pick your desired display and tap Install.
- To change from standard to military, go back to Fitbit settings under your profile in the Today tab. Tap Date, time & units. Find the arrows next to Clock Display Time, and select either 12 hour or 24 hour.
- Make sure you sync your device to implement the changes.
Handling daylight saving time changes
If your Set automatically feature is on, your Fitbit should update automatically after daylight saving. However, some users have reported that their watch doesn’t update, or at least not right away. Follow the steps above to manually update your time zone. You can always turn the automated feature on or off if it’s not working.
