Change your Apple ID from an old email address to a new one
If you’ve changed your email and want to update your Apple ID to match it, it’s easy to do. Keep in mind that you can’t use an email address that’s already in use by another Apple ID.
- Open Settings, then tap your name.
- Tap Sign In & Security.
- Next to Email & Phone Numbers, tap Edit.
- Tap the Remove button next to the email address, then tap Delete.
- Tap Choose Another Email Address and enter your device passcode if prompted.
- Enter the new email address, then tap Continue.
- Enter the code that was sent to your new email address.
- Sign in with your new Apple ID.
Change your Apple ID from a mobile number to an email address
If you no longer own the mobile phone number being used as your Apple ID, or you want to change your Apple ID from a mobile phone number to an email address for easier sign-in and recovery, here’s what to do:
- Sign out of every Apple service and device where you use your Apple ID, except for your iPhone.
- Open Settings > [your name] > Sign-In & Security.
- Next to Email & Phone Numbers, tap Edit.
- Tap Delete next to your phone number and follow the instructions.
- After you enter the email address for your new Apple ID, a code will be sent to you at that address. Enter the code into the field provided.
- Sign in with your new Apple ID.
What to do after changing your Apple ID
Once you’ve changed your Apple ID, you’ll need to update your logins for Apple services like App Store®, Apple Music®, and iCloud®. The next time you sign on to your other devices, like your iPad or Mac, you’ll be prompted to update your Apple ID and password.
